Basta que a rama tenha três quartos de palmo para se poder fazer o tratamento. Este chama-se preventivo. Ainda que a rama esteja muito bonita não deve deixar de ser aplicada calda. O segundo tratamento faz-se antes do lançamento da flor. A calda faz-se da seguinte maneira; em 50 litros de água dissolve-se um kilo de sulfato; noutros 50 litros de água dilui-se um kilo de cal gorda; pouco depois misturam-se as duas soluções a pouco e pouco, mas mexendo bem; obtendo-se por este processo e com as quantidades citadas uma calda para fazer um tratamento a uma sementeira que tenha levado 4 a 4 e meia arrobas de batata.\r\n\r\nNeste concelho alguns lavradores vão já acudir os batatais, apesar deles estarem bonitos.
