Raspam-se ou redram-se as vinhas em que a terra ficou bastante levantada ou em que a existência da erva prejudica a vegetação. Pratica-se ainda a poda verde, livrando as cepas dos rebentos ladrões que são inúteis e que só prejudicam a formação e desenvolvimento dos necessários às futuras colheitas. Despontam-se os lançamentos que apresentarem urna excessiva vegetação para regularidade das varas da poda do ano seguinte, bem como os cachos sujeitos a abortarem nas castas propensas ao desavinho. Nos enxertos deve haver a maior vigilância, é bom descavá-los com a máxima cautela para lhes tirar sem grandes abalos os rebentos do cavalo e as raízes do garfo; tornando a amontoa-los cuidadosamente. Os que tomarem grande desenvolvimento e os do ano anterior devem ser atados a tutores (paus ou canas) para que o ‘vento os não descavalgue. Nos viveiros todos os cuidados são poucos. Devem Ser limpos das ervas e conservarem-se num conveniente grau de humidade, pelo que é necessário uma rega a miúdo. Continua-se com os tratamentos contra o oídio e o míldio.
